Three activities will take place concurrently on February 12, 2011, at Swope Hall, West Chester University – MLMTA Play-a-Thon, the KITS Theory Examination, and the Mini-masterclasses.
Between 1:30 & 4:00, the KITS theory examination will be administered. It is a nationally-standardized test that covers reading, vocabulary, listening, and playing. Each student who passes receives a certificate. Students with a score of 90 or above are placed on the National Honor Roll and receive a gold star on their certificates. All teachers registering students for the KITS exam are urged to order a curriculum guide ($3.00).

KITS Music Theory Workbooks for steps primary through six ($5.00) are also available, but you may use any theory method to prepare your students. You may order materials from KITS, 9732 Corral Dr., Potomac, MD 20854. Please make copies of the Declaration of Eligibility (included in newsletter) for each student participating, have the student, parent and teacher sign it and send it along with the registration and payment of $6.00/student to Pavinee Snyder. Postmark deadline for registration is Jan. 17.
Between 9:00 and 4:00, MLMTA members have the opportunity to have students play in a mini-masterclass with distinguished faculty members from West Chester University. Teachers may reserve up to an hour of time in twenty-minute blocks at $27.00 per block or $81 for the hour. Choice of master teacher is not an option. Please send registration forms, located in the teacher's handbook, to Chairperson TBA. Postmark deadline for registration is Jan. 17.
The annual play-a-thon will run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Earnings from the event benefit MTNA Foundation, and the Constance Murray Scholarship Fund and the Keyboard Department at WCU, and MLMTA. This is a fun, low-key performance opportunity for your students and raises money for worthy music-related causes. Some teachers use the time for repertoire classes or for ensemble playing. Please request the amount of Play-a-thon time you need on the application form and send to Donna Kay Croddy, postmarked by Jan 17. You may generate funds any way you wish, but a minimum of $50.00 per hour is expected. If you wish your students to participate in a typical 'play-a-thon' fund raising you may copy the sponsor form and have them solicit sponsors. You will be responsible for collecting the funds and sending them to Donna Kay no later than March 1.
